The Art of Quoting chapter in They Say/I Say provided me with a lot of information about the correct way to use quotes in your writing, how to introduce them, how to finish them, and how to make them effective in my writing. I found it very helpful that I was provided with multiple different ways to not only introduce a quote, but also how to segue one quote to the next. This was very helpful, because I did not know that there were ways to introduce a quote that can confuse the reader. Once I read this chapter, I was able to recognize ways of introducing quotes that would not be beneficial to the writing. After reading the Art of Quoting chapter, I was able to read through my “My Favorite Meal” essay and analyze the way I had introduced quotes within my writing. I realized that I had some discrepancies between my quotes, and it could potentially be confusing to the reader as to who was saying the quote and why. I was able to use some of the segues provided, and I think it helped make my essay more fluid. I thought it was very useful that we were told to read this as we are writing an essay where we are told to include quotes. I was able to see some of my mistakes and hopefully correct them so that they are easier to read and understand.
