This podcast was really interesting to listen to, and I think it opened up a bunch of different viewpoints that you normally wouldn’t think about. Why do we view death as such a macabre thing? It is a natural, unavoidable event that will eventually happen to every living thing on this planet. Doughtry talked about how we view our dead, and how little we handle them ourselves. When a person dies, we typically handle them as little as possible, handing them off to a funeral home immediately. Why do we do this? When did we become so frightened by death? Doughtry talks about how if you keep the body with you or have a home funeral, the experience is generally more positive. If we send our dead to a crematorium for their final journey alone, it is a lot less personal than if we were to join them. I think this podcast was really interesting, and it opened up a lot of new viewpoints that you normally wouldn’t consider.
