When reading David Foster Wallace’s “Consider the Lobster” for the second time, it regurgitated a lot of the same thoughts I had when I first read this selection. Why do we not talk about the ethical treatment of all animals? Why are we okay with watching dozens of lobsters boil to death, but we could never do that with another animal? These are all the same thoughts that I had when I read this selection for the first time. However, I found that it was different in the way I considered the thoughts that I had come up with. When I first read this paper, I thought of these questions, pondered them for about a day or so, but eventually I let them go. When I read this selection for the second time, these questions were brought back to light. However, I didn’t just let them go. I brought them up with my friends and family, and I asked their opinion on these thoughts. Since there is no proper right answer to these questions, a slight debate was formed. This was quite a contrast from the first time I read “Consider the Lobster”.
